California school districts have been given significant flexibility in how best to support teachers in implementing the Common Core State Standards. This flexibility, in a state with vastly differing local and regional contexts, has resulted in a wide variety of district-level approaches to training teachers in content knowledge and pedagogical strategies aligned to the state standards.

This three-part CenterView series reports on the perspectives of more than 40 school district leaders across the Golden State and the various ways districts are implementing the standards.

This second issue of CenterView focuses on districts’ relationships with technical assistance providers and how districts are building their internal capacity, largely through teacher leaders, to provide professional development on standards implementation .

The issue concludes with recommendations — based on districts’ needs — for technical assistance providers to consider in partnering with districts and offering the particular type of support they seek to advance state standards implementation.
