Primary Grant Focus

ASCD has developed virtual professional learning opportunities that include a webinar series and a social networking platform, along with digital tools to support educators in implementing the instructional shifts required by the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) across content areas.

Strategies for Supporting Common Core Success

ASCD offers a two-year online course of study comprising a series of webinars aligned to the instructional shifts in four content areas: mathematics, English language arts (ELA), science and social studies. Between webinars, educators can engage in other virtual learning opportunities to deepen their understanding of CCSS, such as accessing CCSS-aligned resources through its online digital tool (ASCD EDge) or participating in a professional learning community on the new social networking platform.

  • Teachers may participate in a four-part series of professional learning webinars on required instructional shifts in mathematics, ELA, social studies, and science, led by national experts. Webinars are synchronous for live interaction with the expert and archived for later access.
  • Between webinars, teachers have access to ASCD’s free digital tool, EduCore®, a repository of materials from Literacy Design Collaborative (LDC) and Math Assessment Resource Services (MARS). EduCore’s collection includes introductory videos to the CCSS shifts, articles and papers discussing the CCSS instructional shifts in mathematics and literacy, and evidence-based tools and strategies for implementation of the Common Core.
  • ASCD EDge is a social networking platform enabling educators to join an online community of professionals in a variety of ways. Teachers may participate in any of the special interest groups to problem solve and exchange ideas or resources, follow bloggers, or explore CCSS-related video and audio materials offered by fellow ASCD members.
