Primary Grant Focus

To foster a more coherent and effective approach to Common Core State Standards (CCSS)-aligned mathematics and ELA/literacy instruction among secondary teachers, Chattahoochee-Flint Regional Education Service Agency (CF RESA) offers a combination of face-to-face training, on-site support, and online collaboration.  Through a virtual collaboration platform, CF RESA is providing resources, lesson exemplars, student work, and teacher testimonials to move teachers in their region from a surface-level understanding of the CCSS to a deeper understanding of the instructional shifts. By offering these additional, web-based supports CF RESA promotes increased and ongoing contact with secondary teachers in rural districts in Georgia.

Strategies for Supporting Common Core Success

Chattahoochee-Flint RESA is developing a blended model of secondary teacher support for ELA/Literacy and Math CCSS, leveraging tools from the Literacy Design Collaborative and Mathematics Design Collaborative, and utilizing the following approaches:

  • Face-to-face trainings in CCSS professional development for curriculum leaders and school administrators, including CCSS observation instruments and examples of artifacts and evidence to be used in classroom visits;
  • On-site training and school visits for grade level/subject area;
  • Developing and training teacher leaders to support teachers in their districts;
  • web-based professional learning platform that includes professional development presentations, teacher video testimonials about successful lessons, and virtual coaching; and
  • Online resources including professional learning modules, exemplar CCSS implementation lessons and student artifacts.
