Primary Grant Focus
ISKME plans to extend its existing collaborative professional learning model for deepening teachers’ proficiencies with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in literacy and mathematics, primarily through the efforts of teacher cohorts from 18 secondary schools. As participants in Teachers Advancing Common Core Learning (TACCL), teacher trios will model teacher collaboration related to CCSS implementation and use of the open-access teacher-curated resources available on the OER (Open Education Resources) Commons platform.
Strategies for Supporting Common Core Success
Across 18 schools, 54 educators who are TACCL teacher leaders with demonstrated deep knowledge of CCSS math or literacy shifts have formed teacher cohort trios. The trios model cross-disciplinary collaboration in instruction across English language arts, math, and social studies at their school sites. ISKME provides teacher leader cohorts with a professional learning model and with frameworks and approaches that support teacher leaders to collaborate and share knowledge and skills with colleagues. Each teacher leader is responsible for reaching out to seven cohort trios to further disseminate teacher-to-teacher learning and support related to CCSS implementation.
TACCL teacher leaders are expected to develop new CCSS-aligned resources and contribute them asopen-access resources to the Primary Source Network Hub on the OER Commons platform. Following the pilot stage of the Network Hub, TACCL teacher leaders guide other teachers in utilizing OER Commons to access the free CCSS-aligned resources such as lesson templates, curriculum units, instructional design toolkit, primary sources, Literacy Design Collaborative framework, and teacher-curated sets of professional learning resources. Through TACCL and other projects already underway, ISKME continues to help teachers build their capacity to access and engage with vetted, open-access materials.
