Primary Grant Focus
To support Common Core State Standards (CCSS)-aligned teaching, International Society for Technical Education (ISTE) plans to build a teacher practice network focused on integrating technology into literacy and mathematics instruction. Educators in the network will develop new resources, aligned to both the CCSS and ISTE standards, which will be vetted for sharing for use in classrooms across disciplines.
Strategies for Supporting Common Core Success
Informed by research that technology integration for teachers is more effective when accompanied by coaching and collaborative learning opportunities, ISTE is building a CCSS teacher practice network among its technology coach and teacher membership to collaborate and share approaches that are aligned to CCSS and ISTE standards. Drawing from experience with existing virtual social learning networks, ISTE plans for its CCSS teacher practice network to enable teachers to collaborate and learn in professional learning opportunities, create resources to share, and utilize the forum to solicit support and advice around technology integration and CCSS. Participating coaches and teachers are encouraged to bring these practices to their school sites to support small cross-disciplinary teacher teams as they integrate technology into their classrooms.
ISTE plans to partner with National Center for Literacy Education (NCLE), which will provide content to ISTE-led learning events, co-develop a content assessment tool to evaluate alignment of resources to the CCSS and ISTE standards, and join ISTE in publishing vetted participant-generated resources on its website.
ISTE plans to select twenty members with high interest and experience with CCSS to become Network Leaders, who will moderate and facilitate online discussions in the network and vet participant-generated resources using the content assessment tool for online publication.
